Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about or has already invested in Fiji eg Koro Island Be it either land or property I am just starting to do some research on the country so any opinions at all will certainly help The prices seem cheap in AUS currency but most likely there is a catch there somewhere low CG etc Thanks in advance Andrew

I don't think you could really look at this as an investment for CG as such, but more as a lifestyle place to run away to later Looks great, barge service twice a week to Suva and some facilities already I think like most of these places getting something built to a standard that you expect here will be an issue and then it probably wont survive, so possibly better off getting a more robust build using gun emplacement bunker technique with large natural timbers, see what the other long termers are building You will need to be pretty self sufficient in some respects and need to get handy with a boat as that will be your transport between the islands Good luck with it, would love a slice myself, seems cheaper than Vanuatu that's for sure, but I would tread cautiously, there are plenty of sharks in these tropical paradises and they aren't all in the water Dave

thanks Thanks Dave That's sort of what I thought I wanted an income producing Property (holiday rental etc) on an island that I could retire on later on in life I'll keep looking Andrew

Mate, they were only my thoughts on what I saw in Vanuatu, and then figured Fiji couldwould be fairly similar If you had a place in the big smoke in Vanuatu you could do ok , but the outlying islands while nice, I could not be convinced and saw no evidence to them doing much, but gee they were pretty idyllic and for me, as a place to run away to and having a big boat, I would go the outer islands anyday Without a big boat (or a plane) or being very paly with someone who does, being in the outer Islands would be a logistical nightmare It may be totally different in Fiji,I have not been there yet, so please, don't can the idea just on my ramblings Dave

hehe Thanks I won't be canning the idea By 'I'll keep looking' I meant in Fiji and everywhere else in the world I was after a few opinons so this is very much appreciated Andrew

I love Fiji and my only concerns would be the political unrest, though I guess if you were off the main land it could be less of an issue though of course if it was to be rented out as a holiday home and problems caused people to stay away you would be short on rental income

hi I have done alot of work in fiji with suva hospital reef resort which is now outrigger and the unrest really only came to the island with the influx of money but that not unusual is it the old prime minister which I met and i still around I think was the last great loss to the island but that just my view but getting back to the island in fiji you have two types of ownership freehold and crown land or 99 year leases unlike vanuatu which is all lease hold and is struck a new lease when you buy a property( and yes know a bit about vanuatu as well I was with pacific rim austrade in a earlier life as for sharks well there are sharks everywhere just these sharks have that warm smile and thou they are not as behind your back sharks as you have in macquarie syd collins mebl or even high street adelaide they are alot more open but sharks they are the islands work off a very different time frame hense the saying working on fiji time so its is very much a life style not an income thing in the island will you make money yes is there alot better investments to make money yes is there a better life style simply no vanuatu is the fiji of 15 years ago and the prices are different because of the amount of land there is or was about 15% of fiji that is freehold land and I current in a jv have 100 acres looking at the sea and is zoned for a hotel and we are not doing it at present but again thats fiji time and with the melt down at the moment that land will be seeing a few more sunsets hope this helps I have not been in touch for about 9 months with people there but will be having a chat soon again on fiji time when I get around to doing it but thats the style of business there if you are in a hurry don't go to the pacific because I don't know of anywhere even the mac's in american samoa thats in a hurry

Hi We are in Fiji right now It is beautiful and relaxing but I think I would rather pay for staying at a resort once every 2 years rather than dealing with the Fiji Time thing especially building Anyways it is beautiful cheers Bula
