Some people say that children should be disciplined in their early age, and punishment should be used. To some extent do you agree? What kind of punishment can be used by teachers and parents?

Spare the rod, spoil the child. Yes. I agree with it to some extent. I think that some kinds of punishments are necessary for children if those punishments are to protect them and not cause physical or mental hurts.
Sometimes punishments are protections. Fire, electricity, running automobiles… There are so many potential fatal threats to child in daily life. Little children are too young to be aware of those dangers. Punishment acts as an alert here. It can keep children away from those dangers or let children handle those things more carefully than before. Big children know what is good, bad or dangerous. However, majority of children can not control themselves very well. Especially they can not conquer their desires. Sometimes they may just can not help themselves to do some bad things, such lying, stealing, bullying. Punishment acts as a reminder here. It can keep children from evils.
Most of parents try to avoid physical hurts when they have to give lessons to children. It is good. Moreover, parents also need to pay attentions to those unaware mental hurts. Mental hurts sometimes can impact children’s personalities. For example, shorts or threats can cast a heavy shadow on children’s feeling. Frequent verbal abuse may make child more likely be cowardly and sensitive. Forms of punishment must be chosen very carefully and deliberately.
Parents should know that punishments to their children are acceptable only because they come from love. And finally, one day, their children will treat those punishments as priceless treasures they receive during childhoods.
