dilemma

i cann't cath 2 in 1 situation?

听说过between the devil and the deep blue sea,不过是在俩坏事中间选。。

经常抽到很奇怪的论题,想不出怎么回答,先干咳一声: this is quite a dilemma。。。。

Just simply 'I'm in a catch 21 situation'

Catch 22, not 21...

Catch 22 is the right phrase. It came from the Vietnam war era.

IMHO, there is a bit difference here - with "caught between a rock & a hard place", both obstacles may not be related to each other; with "catch 22", there is a sense of circular dependency between the two choices. In the context of what LZ asked, "caught between a rock & hard place" sounds more suitable than "catch 22".
For example,
"you can not find a job without local experience."
"you will never have local experience without working in a local company".
This is what many of us has experienced at early stage of our life in Australia, and is a typical Catch 22 situation.
进退两难,however, is like
"I'll lose the deposit if I change my mind on this property."
"But if I buy it, with the termite problem discovered, I may lose tens of thousands dollars later."
Both choices sucks, but they're not related to each other. Therefore, this guy is "caught between a rock and a hard place."

但这个短语没有between a rock & a hard place流行,可能是澳洲人太down to earth,所以更喜欢土土的表达方式吧...

Catch-22 = an impossible situation where you are prevented from doing one thing until you have done another thing, but you cannot do the other thing until you have done the first thing
e.g. a Catch-22 situation

is this chicken and egg?

You are right...I should slap myself!

Catch twenty-two or Catch two-two ?

another one I've heard before is "damned if you do, damned if you don't"
