我觉得am应该变成do, 我记得前面无论是行为动词，还是表语动词都用助动词will/do/does/did来代替。（我再double check一下）

此句as后面的从句没有宾语，就可以把do省略，变成 Tom is in the same position as I. 因此LZ原句应该是正确的。
如果有宾语的话，不能省(肯定不能省，因为还要接宾语。)

我不知道此句中的me怎么和前句对等起来。如果说The position is same to Tom as to me, 这样还可以理解。

maybe he knew that every one knew what he was going to say, and that would make it easier .i know a lot of my local workmates like to do that.specially in oral english.
for example, some one is saying "i am going to the cinema tomorrow, you?"
i think from the above context, we all now that " you" mean what about you? or are u going to go?
i reckon the function of language is just for communication, as long as we can be understood .we dont need to be linguist at all time ,do we?
