Network fault infuriates Melbourne businesses

A Telstra update gone wrong has been blamed for a frustrating day for about 20 Melbourne businesses left with faulty email and internet facilities.
A furious employee of one of the businesses contacted The Age this afternoon to report the problem after her latest contact with the telco.
"It's just been incredibly frustrating," the employee said.
The woman said her business, which she asked not be identified, first noted a problem about 7.45am and was initially told it would be fixed by midday.
Telstra had said the problem was caused by updates at the Exhibition Street exchange that had gone wrong, she said.
The problem left the business, which employed about 25 workers in Melbourne, unable to send emails or access the internet on the last day of the financial year.
In its latest call around 3pm, Telstra told the employee the problem had affected about 20 businesses and would be fixed by the end of the day.
"We're not sure if that means 5pm or midnight," she said.
"It's just ridiculous."
The outage is another blow to the telco, which yesterday infuriated punters unable to purchase tickets in last night's $50 million Oz Lotto draw.
Oz Lotto's ticket sales system went on the blink just after 1.30pm, affecting newsagents across Melbourne for more than an hour.
A Telstra spokesman said yesterday a number large Victorian customers, including some banks and government departments, experienced outages of up to two-and-a-half hours.
Customers' internet connections, telephones, other data services and about 20,000 ADSL services were affected by the outage, caused by a hardware failure about 1.20pm.
The spokesman said Telstra was not aware of any "significant issues" in Melbourne today but the company apologised if customers had been without service.
"Obviously, we want them to get back up and running as soon as possible," he said.

该不愿透漏个人信息的爆料女士称她的公司今天早上7:45分发现问题之后，被告知网络会在中午的时候恢复正常。
澳洲电信告之故障是由于展览路的交换机更新不当所引起的。
这个故障导致这家位于墨尔本，有25名雇员的公司无法收发邮件和访问网络，而且这两天财政年度即将结束。
今天下午三点左右的时候，澳洲电信告知该爆料职员称，这一故障导致大概20家公司网络无法运行，他们会在今天晚些时候修理好该故障。
“不知道他们是否能在下班前修好这个故障。太不可思议了！”该爆料女士说。
这次事故更是激起了彩民们的极大愤怒。这次网络故障导致很多彩民无法在线购买彩票，而昨天的大奖高达五千万澳币。
彩票销售系统昨天下午1:30分的时候开始出现故障，大概持续了一个多小时。整个墨尔本的报刊经销商都受到了影响。
澳洲电信发言人说昨天维多利亚州的很多用户包括一些银行和政府部门都出现了网络故障，而且故障持续长达两个半小时。用户的网络连接，电话，其他数据服务以及两万多个ADSL服务都由于网络故障而中断。这次事故是下午1:20分的时候由于设备故障而引起的。
该发言人还说这次事故纯粹是由于技术问题引起的，并且向广大用户道歉。
“我们当然想尽快修复故障，恢复网络的正常运行。”该发言人说。

redundant连接也要通过telstra的设备啊，没办法绕开telstra的。除非不用Telstra的线路。谁让Telstra是澳洲寡头呢。哪天国会来个表决，把Telstra给拆了。东部为澳洲电信ATL，西部为澳洲网通ANC。

redundant 不需要australia telecom ， 譬如用fiber 或 无线就可以 100% bypass australia telecom 的铜线网络
