收到学校newsletter，觉得这是非常好的措施。我都想把它应用到家里。真正的social skill需要在真实生活中提高的。
Last year the College introduced a new Mobile Phone Policy that reflected our growing concerns around the constant use of phones. One only has to take public transport or drive past a bus stop to see this is not isolated to the school grounds.
The Mobile Phone Policy introduced in Term 2, 2017 was immediately successful in creating a new environment around the corridors and grounds of the College - with boys taking the new-found freedom from their phones to talk, socialise, and play with friends.
Recently I have noticed a marked increase in groups of boys with their laptops out before school, at recess and lunchtime. Commonly the boys are watching clips of other people playing games. In most instances the boys are not communicating with each other; rather they are fixated on the screen. In the last term break I caught up with my brother and his sons in England. Apparently, according to my 15 year old nephew, this is also common in England. He told me this while watching the screen! Whilst the ability to multitask is to be admired, I am certainly concerned that there is a definite lack of socialisation among the boys while they are glued to their screens.
Therefore, we are making a subtle change to our newly named Computer and Mobile Phone Policy to include the line
"Students are not to use their laptops or phones before school, recess or at lunchtime except laptop use in the library to complete schoolwork."
