Beat around the bush - Speak evasively or indirectly. Try to avoid addressing the problems/questions.
Cut to the chase - The opposite of beat around the bush. Directly addressing the problem/question.
For example. A hard decision needs to be made but no one want to take the responsibilities. The deadline is near and a decision has to be made. In the 11th hour meeting, one guy finally decide to stop beating around the bush. He said to everyone in the room: "Guys, let's cut to the chase and come up with something or we will all get the boot."
Get the boot - get fired. 被炒鱿鱼。
