I would like 斑竹 and anybody else to correct the incorrect word usage and grammar mistakes if there is any.

今天午饭时,一个话题使得二人闹得不愉快。吵着吵着,一个人讲了一句:
Don’t get all hoity-toity with me. OK?
那个被讲的人说了声“excuse me”,就走了。我们也就散了。

这个词英国人用时的意思可从字典查到:
noun
(Briticism) a grand formal party on an important occasion
但是在澳洲这里却是完全相反的意思,比如:

是混乱的意思
This from my mate at the FT: "just talked to our FT word-style guru. The web definitions are correct and the term is used as such in Britain. However, Australia seems to have bent the meaning over a period of time to mean a quarrel. I certainly thought that was what it meant. Definitely a British term in origin. You learn something new every day..."
