So upset here....went to Como Clinic to see a GP a month ago and he filled the prescription for me saying my eyes were just affected by the coldness viruses, I then doubted his diagnosis saying I had never had such kind of coldness symptoms which caused my eyes to be inflamed....and since it's the first time that I had been to a GP, I asked if I needed to see an eye specialist, he said rather confidently that I didn't need to and he could handle it.
My symptoms seemed to be recovered after my eyes being instilled for continuously 3 days with the eyedrops he prescribed me, but whenever I wore my contact lenses, the symptoms would recur the next day and $@#!$@Q$ today I couldn't go thru it and rang an eye clinic, and I told them my eyes were already very uncomfy and they asked if I have been to their clicic before, I said, no, I am the first-time patient but I have been to a GP re this ailment. The receptionist was very kind and allowed me to go to their clinic this arvo without a referral letter from that GP.
But when I rang them again after getting my boss' approval (of taking half-day off from work), another receptionist answered the phone and insisted that I go to either a GP or optometrist to get a letter first, then to see their eye specialist. I was soooo frustrated,,, no matter what I said, she insisted. and surely, I understand it's the normal procedure in OZ to see a specialist.
I tried very hard to google the bloody no. of that Como clinic on phone and finally got it thru 12456, kind of them, got the no. and put me thru directly to them...but the bloody receptionist at the Como clinic said Dr. Luke, the GP who diagnosed my eye disease, wouldn't turn in till tomorrow. and I asked if Dr. Luke could write me a referral letter and then I could go to the eye specialist straight away, He said - no, you have to come by to get it - I complained and asked why couldn't they find out my history record and write me a letter since I have been there, he said - IT'S THE LAW, AND DR. LUKE MUST STICK TO IT. --
What the hell is that the last time that Dr. said I didn't need to see a specialist and thus he didn't write me the referral letter, He mis-diagnosed me and my symptoms have been nowhere better, and I have to pay them TWICE to get the referral letter to proceed.
I hang up the phone very angry and upset and came here to give it away by writting the above...

而且这里做个病人得具有医生的诊断的判断能力....
所以还没去看过医生.

COW, It's the first time I went to see that GP.... now it's the same either I go to another GP or optometrist..the thing is ...I must get their referral letter then present it to the eye specialist...
Bloody GP, he didn't diagnose my eye symptoms correctly and requested me to go to his place again to get it. I won't go there anyway
It's just wasted my appointment this arvo with the eye specialist

calm down. it's the normal practice here. you need a referral letter to see a specialist and you need to see the GP to get the referral. and the GP may try to treat you first if he/she thinks this is treatable at GP level.

Personally I don't think a GP is good at every area of one's BODY, and in terms of EYES, it's the most important and sensitive organ which they should give 100% accurate diagnosis, shouldn't they

我的经验是发现一个GP不行，马上换（我女儿脸上的湿疹就是这样的）~不怕没本事的GP,就怕自以为有本事的

He did, but he obviously didn't give me the correct diagnosis nor the prescription.
I think they just want to rip you off by asking you to go there again for whatever letter.
Anyway, To be healthy is so important here....everybody will be tired of the strict procedure even in the event of emergency!

if you switch to another GP now, chances are that the new GP may try to treat you himself/herself and you may have to go through the not-so-pleasant process one more time

understand that you are quite frustrated now but don't think the purpose of the procedure is to make the GPs able to rip patients off. Anyway, most GPs are very busy and they don't really need to play these tricks to get more visits from patients.

我也有差不多的经历，给GP3次钱才得到去看specialist的机会。看specialist前又排队等了一个月。
你最好快点和specialist预约了。

俺家小儿去年这个时候去海洋球玩,就是有很多花花绿绿球玩的地方.回来后眼睛发炎,看了3个GP,一个说发炎,给俺们开了药,不好再看另一个GP,说过敏,给俺们开了药,还不好,再看一个GP,说感染,给俺们开了个药.一共开了3个不同的药,那药真实个贵啊.第四个GP说没办法看SPECIALIST吧,约SPECIALIST,左看右看,说这个病例俺们没见过,我们没办法,再观察几天,又收了俺150刀.后用朋友国内带来的青霉素眼药膏,2天就好,成本2元RMB.

Just rang Royal Eye & Ear Hospital, they said my case would be treated as EMERGENCY if I wasn't referred by a GP. and it's 24 hours a day....not bad
