澳洲儿子考上SCOTCH 奖学金 感谢所有的帮助

在澳大利亚中学教育



儿子考上了SCOTCH 奖学金（没有考音乐），我真是百感交集。

其实，对这次考试我没有抱太大希望，因为我自己是搞教育的，知道这个竞争的激烈，参加考试的孩子有很多都是极其聪明的孩子，还有一些犹太人，印度人的孩子。一些犹太小学，比华人多的小学在成绩上高出一大截。

另外，儿子是跳过级的，比其他孩子小一到两岁。我认为：在很多方面，跳级都是一个正确的选择， 但对于考奖学金，却是极其不利的。少受一年教育造成很大不同，而且我已经明显感觉到，男孩子，就是小３个月，在理解力和成熟度上都会弱很多。

但是他拿到了这１％的机会，我想成功是因为：

首先是小郭强调的：孩子本人的能力，天赋和努力。

第二是要了解系统，ＡＣＥＲ考试看重英文，ＥＤＵＴＥＳＴ看重逻辑推理。Ｓｃｏｔｃｈ　是自己出题，看重数学和智力，但因为考试的孩子数学和智力都很好，所以抓英文也是关键。

第三，我现在意识到爱帮助人是一件多么可贵的品质，在自己需要帮助时，各种帮助就从不同渠道不同方向来了。现在回想，如果没有这些帮助，光靠一个人一个家庭的努力是不够的。我相信好朋友是上帝送到我们身边来帮助和祝福我们的。

儿子考上了私校的奖学金，这可能是百里挑一的机会，我给他说了这些话：


儿子，请看着妈妈的眼睛，仔细听好:

儿子，妈妈想感谢你。你是妈妈巨大的动力和骄傲。你让妈妈也有机会去面对这么大的挑战，机会和成就感。

从你的角度，妈妈请你想想，你是什么样的能力和方法让你取得这样的成功？你如何把这些能力和方法用到以后所有的目标上？

但妈妈也希望你能看到，这是大家共同努力的结果。你现在相信：没有什么样的事情是做不成的。是的，如果大家共同努力，的确没有什么样的事情是做不成的。但是，如果只是你自己，可能还会遇到一些困难或者不成功的事情，在这个时候，请千万不要怀疑自己的能力，这是因为你得到的大家的帮助还不够多，这种时候要好好想想：“我应该得到一些什么样的帮助才能成功？如何才能得到那些帮助。”如果用这样的思维，一切困难都能迎刃而解，真的所有的事情都能成功。

儿子这次考上了好几所中学的奖学金，因为已经拿到offer了，所以有的学校的面试就取消掉了，居然有一所学校没有面试就直接把offer寄过来了。我感到，myschool 网站公布各校成绩后，今年明显感到学校在抢成绩好的学生，比如成绩一出来，马上打手机通知学生面试，而且当场给offer,并且男孩子的offer给得都挺高。

我们为什么为儿子选择 SCOTCH COLLEGE 中学

我看到的最理想的一种教育模式。观点如下：
　　
　　Manner。 该校校长曾在新生家长会上说：“我不能保证每个孩子在高考中得满分，但我能保证六年后还给你一位绅士！”对此我深有体会，在参观他们学校时，那些十多岁的少年蹲下身体和我们的儿子说些很有趣的话，带领儿子们参观学校时，显得非常专业和有风度。我们离开时，小儿子问“什么时候我可以回到这里？我还想见那两个大哥哥。”邹老师告诉我，她的大儿子进去才半年，明显的有了责任，关怀，理解和沟通能力，对小弟弟也好多了。

恭喜LZ了。看了LZ列出来的长串名单，就觉得考一次私校真的很不容易。
我记得那个SHARON DU小朋友是不是上次有另外一个爸爸写女儿得全奖帖子里提到的，那个写MY MELBOURNE的诗歌得第一名的女孩子啊？她写得真的很好诶。

考上这么好的私校奖学金，真是大喜事，恭喜恭喜。
恕我冒昧问一下，你儿子用百分之多少的时间在学习上？
你儿子每周除了补习做功课，还有多少其它的活动，比如：打球，游泳，弹琴等等？
我没有别的意思，只是想问问，要达到你儿子的level，还能不能兼顾其它事？我问这，是因为你在帖子里，感谢了一大串的人，好像是大家在打攻坚战，挺耗精力的。
我的孩子明年是year5，也想考个奖学金，能让我省点钱。所以很想知道要付出多少代价。

是的，就是那个sharon Du, 2008年墨尔本文学奖第一名，报纸上有报道。她在写作上是很有天分的。我是她 的fans. 她性格也很有趣幽默。告诉我：我自己喜欢的诗歌都得不了奖，不喜欢的诗歌都要得奖。

I wrote a random poem at home today. Also, I wrote another poem, a while ago (maybe a week?)
Anyway, they are both attached. Which one do you like better?
I might enter one of them in a competition some time but I'm not sure. Anyway, while I hate hate hate
'All Around You' I feel satisfied with these. However, poems I am satisfied with never win competitions. ??
Therefore, in future I will only submit the poems I hate hate hate into competitions, because I KNOW they will win!
Or maybe not. Something may prove me wrong.

I admit that 'Not Singing but Screaming' has far better plan, title, and abjectives in it, but Doorstop is just... I don't know,
contemplative? Is that the word?
I need to find a better title than Doorstop. Otherwise, the judge will look at it and think, "Meh. That's just weird." and ditch it.

　　　　Ok, well, there aren't any 'secrets' to writing I can share with you, but there are tips.
　　　　Number one, writing has to come from the heart. Everyone can do this, but few people can put the language of emotion into words.
　　　　
　　　　Number two, when you write, you have to think of beautiful things. For example, I've attached the pictures that inspire me. It is good to have them open or as a background when you are writing. Writing has to be beautiful, even when describing dreary things. The sounds of the words matter too, for example, scintillating seems to me the shine on a dragonfly's wings, while gleam, even though it means the same thing, sounds much more like the shine on a refrigerator.
　　　　
　　　　Number three, no characters can be perfect. Always derive characters from real life, and give them faults. Nicknamed 'Mary Sues' and 'Gary Sues' perfect character do not make the reader interested. In fact, I read some books just to laugh at the Mary Sues in them. For example, I think Arya in Eragon is an awful Mary Sue, and is so easily angered I have a tendency to call her 'Arya the Angry'. Up with the 'emotional control' jokes already. However, I find Scarlett O'Hara in 'Gone with the Wind' a good character because, well, she is no Mary Sue. She has good faults, and she is very real to me. When I try to imagine Arya as a real person, it is all blurry and a Barbie doll pops into mind, but Scarlett is clear, very clear.
　　　　
　　　　Number four, and most importantly, writing has to be real. Even fantasy stories need to have some kind of 'realish zest' to them. Describe them as if it were real. For example:

　　　　A beautiful blonde princess sat in the tower, her tears falling down her perfect plum cheeks.
　　　　
　　　　Realism:
　　　　A striking blonde princess stood at the tower window. At first sight, she was too beautiful to be true, but when you looked closely, crystal tears fell down her cheeks and into the wilting grass below. The trees whistled along, and her golden hair, full of tangles, nearly fell to the dry, parched ground, with only her tears to water it.
　　　　
　　　　See how more interesting the second one was? Everything needs to have some faults.
　　　　
　　　　
　　　　I have not included any of the common things they tell you such as 'Read to Write' or 'Practice to Perfection'. But I'm sure you already know these things, and I hate repetition, so let's scoot to the end.

谢谢祝贺。我个人认为学习成绩真的不是最重要的，学习好可以给自己一个平台，但情商更加重要，要有理解，慈悲，慷慨之心，要有自己找快乐的能力，要会交朋友。要有健康的身体，强大的内心，要爱帮助人，要有贡献之心。还要有沟通能力和自己会建立沟通渠道等。

可能正是这种思维方式，让孩子取得成功。而且这次还发现，私校奖学金的选拔系统是不欢迎死读书的学生。

时间应该花在刀刃上，不要盲目补习，要抓弱点。为这次考试，我们的学习安排是：主要是抓写作，抓英文阅读（每天读小说和Times之类的杂志），考前做了一些模拟题。他的数学在日校学得非常好。

至于是否要考奖学金，一定要深思熟虑，最初我是无知者无畏，走完这个过程才悟到很多东西。希望我有时间写一篇关于这方面的文章。现在如果我要选择的话，我可能不一定会选择走奖学金考试这条路。（我先生一直不赞成让孩子靠奖学金，觉得家长把自己的经济压力转到年幼的孩子身上。）

奖学金考试好处：

能培养一种奋斗精神，竞争意识，学习能力，在学习上学到很多东西。而且不怕困难，制定计划的能力。成功了会对自己能力有一种强烈的自信。能省钱。

不利之处：

有的家长方法不够好，盲目补习，让孩子厌烦学习。
考奖学金很难，有的家长不注意鼓励孩子，老批评孩子，让相互的关系（最珍贵的情感）受到伤害。
这个过程大人小孩都有压力。（所以要用策略）
要做好失败的准备。要避免失败对孩子的副作用。所以考试前我就告诉儿子，我们的目的是培养你的能力，现在已经达到了，如果能拿到奖学金，就是bonus. 如果失败，我准备的台词是：你跳级了，比别人少受一年教育。

我看到一些暂时还没有取得成功的孩子，都是我很喜欢的孩子，我的内心有些疼，我是这样认为的：

一个新加坡背景的孩子，为了考scotch 晚上一年学，学两门乐器。但我感到他压力太大。最后已经对学习不感兴趣。

另一个儿子日校的同学，数学很棒，写作比儿子好。但他的那个补习学校说70%的学生都能考上奖学金，一百多个孩子他总是第十名左右。现在家长说补习学校的宣传让他们轻敌，没有正视孩子的弱点。其实孩子写作能力不稳定，时好时坏。应该抓抓。

儿子还有一个好朋友，我很喜欢，单纯朴实善良，内心世界丰富，很有想象力，但他总是追求质量,一定要quality，可是很多考试要求速度快，30分钟60道题，15分钟一篇文章。我给他妈妈说“万一到最后xxx如果没有消息，为了避免这次经历对他产生负作用，我希望你能告诉他，1，我们的目的是培养你的能力，现在已经达到了，我们很高兴你在这个过程中的成长和提高。2，你非常优秀，只是总是追求质量,一定要quality，我们为此proud, 可是很多考试要求速度快，我们以后练速度，会更成功。因为练质量比练速度更难。” 这个孩子已经拿到了Carey College 的奖学金。

我就觉得我不够了解系统，还有对学校了解不够，借口是自己太忙，没有去过一所学校的open day。现在我后悔死了！
我大儿的长项是是数学，数理和文字的推理能力也很强，但阅读理解是他的弱项。我以为这与他的年龄有关，这也就是我后悔送我的孩子过早上学的缘由。
我尤其喜欢你描述该校学生的manners和员工的责任，关怀，沟通能力。有这样的学生和员工，校长应该是相当不错的！
原本我想让我的小儿上另一所私立中学，现在想法变了。我在考虑是不是该促使我的大儿现在开始努力，考Scotch College八年级的奖学金。
