To reiterate the settings on the router, it's set as follows:
WAN Connection Type: Was on "Automatic" but have manually changed it to say "PPPoE"
Username: my mate's full iiNet account email address
Password: his password

A bit of an update to this problem anyway, iiNet/Opticomm eventually had to make some further changes as his migration from IPOE to PPPoE was not handled properly on their end and that is what caused all of these issues.几乎证实了他的路由器或任何设备没有错，但提供商的东西很重要。
