“NO NO NO. The information below is COMPLETELY false. Subaru has never fixed the headgasket problem. They continuously tell customers “Oh…thats a problem with the older models. They fixed it on the “insert model year here”. It is NOT about what coolant or different headgasket revisions (Hogwash!) The REAL PROBLEM is the OPEN DECK engine design Subaru uses. Please Google OPEN DECK then CLOSED DECK engines. Look at the images. Cylinders literally floating in an empty shell of an engine (Open Deck). The design is so cheap and disposable that it is almost optimized for failure. Cylinder movement causes headgasket failure. NOW the reason that there is LESS headgasket problems in the turbo models is NOT because of different headgaskets as has been mentioned below. It is because these engines are actually SEMI CLOSED DECK engine designs in the WRX STi etc. There is additional support of the cylinders so they dont move. (You can google that too). Less cylinder movement, less headgasket failure. If Subaru just switched to a CLOSED DECK engine or designed a far better open deck engine (Even go semi closed on ALL Subaru models) the headgasket problems would be gone. But they obviously never will. They continue making these cheap disposable open deck blocks that JUST make it through the warranty period. Please google open deck engine and be sure to look at SUBARU open deck engine photos. They are by far the weakest looking in the entire auto industry. It’s a shame because I liked my Subarus aside from all the relentless engine failures I had.”
