Licence expired up to five years
If you renew more than six months, but less than five years after the expiry date, your licence will be reissued. The new expiry date will be calculated from the date the licence is reissued.

If you 're a learner licence holder, you 'll have to pass the knowledge test before your licence will be renewed. You 'll also have to pass an eyesight test and pay the learner licence fee.
Learner driver licences are renewed for five years. If you 're a temporary overseas visitor and your learner licence is marked with the code 'Q', your licence can be renewed for one year only.
Roads and Maritime may refuse to renew your learner licence if your driving record is unsatisfactory.

L牌过期。。。

当年是working visa,我太太的L牌只有一年有效期，后来过期了。后来拿到PR后，想去问问能不能续，不行就拿个photo id，反正不打算开车。那时去换的时候已经过期两年了，RTA问为什么过期这么久才来换，我们说PR今年刚刚拿到，原来是working visa。RTA直接收了28块，给了个5年的L牌，什么考试都不用。
