Jeep has issued its fifth recall this year for the Grand Cherokee, a vehicle plagued by issues such as brake problems, unintended acceleration and the risk of a cabin fire.
The American brand's flagship model has been recalled for the third time in as many months, with a relatively minor electrical glitch set to annoy drivers by failing to warn them of failed indicator lamps at the rear of the car.
The ACCC's recall website says the latest issue "may pose an accident hazard", and the indicator lamp warning is the latest in a long line of problems for the Grand Cherokee.
Four other issues this year have been much more serious, such as corroded brake boosters that could fail, "minimizing the vehicle's braking ability", problematic brake assistance systems "lengthening the distance needed to stop a vehicle", a cruise control system with "unintended and continued acceleration" and a fire hazard through trapped wiring for the interior vanity lamp.
The same model was recalled twice in 2013 for flawed daytime running lamps that were not bright enough and a potentially dangerous electrical fault that could prevent anti-lock brake and electronic stability control systems from working.
