(对不起,用软件打中文太费劲了.... Also sorry that I've not uploaded any pictures before and it looks a bit time consuming. Easy to google though )
1. Lentils
Rich in protein, folate, iron and fiber. Very healthy food. I boil them and blended with boiled sweet potatos. Organic available in Woolworth
2. Quinoa
Very high in protein. Rich in magnesium and iron. It is a source of calcium, dietary fiber and phosphorus. Easy to cook - simply add quinoa flakes to oat porridge (whole quinoa seems to take longer to cook.) Organic quinoa flake available in Coles.
3. Chickpeas
A nutrient-dense food and excellent source of iron, folate, phosphorus, protein and dietary fiber. I made chickpea pumpkin soup and DS loves it! I soak the dry chickpea in hot water for 20min and changed to cold water and soak in fridge overnight. Boil for 2 hours next day and blend them with cooked pumpkin into paste/soup. Organic dry chickpeas available from organic stores. I bought 'four leaf' brand. We ate the rest of them and loved it too
4. Figs
Contains highest amount of calcium of any fruit. Contains different types of antioxidants. Good source of iron, magnesium, potassium, B vitamins. Should not consume too much though, because it contain oxalates, a chemical which can cause kidney and gall bladder stones when it becomes too concentrated in the body. Simply fed DS fresh figs when in season for afternoon tea. He loved it :-)
5. Purple carrots
On top of all the nutrition of normal carrots purple carrots contain antioxidants!
6. beetroot
A very nutritious veggie that tastes sweet:-) One of DS's favorite dish is roast veggies (pumpkin, red capsicum, beetroot, sweet potato and potato, oven roasted with drizzled avocado oil)
7. barley
A whole grain that can be a good replacement for rice. This centuries-old grain is packed with fiber, contains important vitamins and minerals:-)
Hope your babies will love these nutritious foods as well!

None of these foods is common allergens. They are fine for babies of 6 to 7 months old as long as you blend them into very smooth texture. Especially whole chickpeas can be a chocking hazard and should always blended even for older babies.

No. Quinoa is a different grain, while cous cous is a dish of semolina, I.e. essentially a form of pasta.
评论
Yes, canned chickpeas are cooked and ready to eat. However, I thought the homemade from dry beans are healthier :-)

Thanks a lot!
To be honest I do not know what Lentil, quinoa and chickpea are called in Chinese. I never had them when I was in China

在超市看见扁豆有好几种颜色,绿色、红色、黄色,买哪种给宝宝吃呢?
评论
They are all good, slightly different in nutrition. The red and yellow variety seem to be easier to be cooked into a mashy, creamy texture. I used green lentils simply because I found the organic product :-)

I also found roasted red capsicum a good baby food as well. Simply oven roast them together with pumpkin, sweet potato with drizzled olive oil. Peel the red capsicum after they become soft. Do't have to blend them once baby can soft chew. My 11 month olds loves it!

Also planning to introduce coconut oil. Have to be very careful not to overheat when cook with olive oil especially when sautéing. I am thinking of using coconut oil instead, which has much higher smoking point. Did some research. It seems that coconut oil is very healthy and good for babies. Anyone here having it before? Do you, or baby looks it?

那几种豆都怎么做才好吃啊 宝宝挑食了,不喜欢吃的就从嘴里掏出来

我只看见 coconut oil是固体壮的 瓶装的 不知道用起来方便吗

Maybe hold on... Coconut oil is trendy and a bit controversial. I'd use it only occasionally and stick to more common oil , like canola oil for most cookings.
To answer your question, some people use it like butter

Probably cook with the foods that she likes, eg sweet potato, pumpkin?

Many health organizations advise against the consumption of high amounts of coconut oil due to its high levels of saturated fat.
评论
(Sorry, I am Lz and using my hubby's ID)
Thanks. I am a bit confused though.. It is said that concern for high level of saturated fat from coconnut was a misunderstanding because they are short hydrocarbon fatty acid, which is not harmful...
Anyway, I did not give it to my baby only because it is not so conventional... Call me "conservative"
I have been using avocado oil, which has relative high smoke point, for sauteing. Not sure if I should try something else as well? Extra virgin olive oil has low smoke and does not seem to be suitable for sauteing and roasting.
What oil do you use for cooking?
评论
canola

About the canola's smoking point, when you cook with it, being mindful, there is a range of temperature, which is below its smoking point but suitable for you to add your ingredients in to saute them.
