About Expo
Most parents who seek independent schooling for their children are looking for schools that provide quality teaching, a secure environment and academic reputation as well as offering discipline, values and tradition. To help parents and families in their search for the right school, the North Shore Schools’ Expo is being held on Friday 29th May and Saturday 30th May, in the Dougherty Community Centre, 7 Victor Street, Chatswood, from 10am to 4pm both days.
The expo will showcase many leading independent schools including some of the country’s oldest schools as well as those founded in recent years. Featured will be country and city schools, day and boarding schools, boys, girls and co-ed schools from Pre School through to Year 12. This is an opportunity for parents to make contact with, and gather information from representatives from the many independent schools who service Sydney’s northern suburbs, all under the one roof.
School staff will be there to answer any questions parents might have in assessing a school’s suitability for their child. Parents will find it helpful to have a checklist of questions on matters that are of individual importance to them so as to achieve maximum value from the expo. This is an opportunity parents should not miss. Discussion could relate to whether a child has a particular interest, such as music, sport, and languages, vocational or academic studies that the parents want the school to nurture or does their child have specific learning needs.
Other questions might relate to location. Is it important that the school is close to where the parents live or work?
What transport is available? Many independent schools have their own buses. Parents will want to know about the characteristics of a school. Is it important that the school is single sex or coeducational? Is the size of the school important? Do they want a pre-school, a primary school, a secondary school, or a combined primary and secondary school? Are boarding facilities important?
In regards to the school’s curriculum, does the school have a comprehensive curriculum and how does the curriculum meet the needs of the child? What co-curricular activities are offered such as, sport, music and camps? Are any of these activities compulsory? Is there an additional charge for such activities?
How will the child be assessed and how is assessment reported to parents? How does the school measure its performance? Parents need to ask what structures are in place to ensure a caring and nurturing environment in the school. What policies and procedures are in place to ensure the safety and welfare of students?
Parents can find the answers to these and any other questions they may have by attending the Sydney North Shore Schools’ Expo. Admission to the expo is free and there is parking is available in the Victor Street Westfield’s carpark. The Dougherty Community Centre is only a 3 minute walk from Chatswood Train Station.

最近流感闹得挺凶,儿子离上学还有2-3年。如果每年都有,今年就不用去凑热闹了。
