You'd want to buy below value and sell above value. Only buy fair value when your analysis suggests reasonable high probability that it's going to move to above value.
Sounds simple right? But the tricky part is the perceived fair value is constantly evolving. How frequent it changes depending on the time frame you are trading on. Obviously the longer the time frame, the less frequent it changes, assuming volatility is in normal range.

That's why market is a continuous auction process, price discovery is the mechanism to facilitate trading. Throughout this process, market establishes fair value, below and above value. Trader's job is to anticipate where these levels are potentially located, then build strategy to profit from this process.

so when i'm referring to 1165ish as fair value, i'm looking at 30mins chart. I'm a day/swing trader. So i'm looking at short term stuff. On daily chart, however the current fair value is 1208. So 1165 could appear to long term holders as below value.
Now my focus in that is market think that 1132ish is below value? if so, market will reject lower prices. If i do see that happening, then i know market likely wants to trade higher back to fair value , then momentum builds up, people jumping on board will pushes it to above value. That's when i'd look for opportunity to sell.

on the other hand, if market attempts to move higher, but gets rejected a few times. That tells me the perceived fair value is likely moving down. In this case, try join the short side, sell above value when opportunity presents and cover when below value.
My job is to try to figure out at any moment, which side is the dominant force, then join the flow. Don't swim against it.
