A multi-vehicle crash involving a truck and eight cars has left several people injured and caused traffic chaos on one of Sydney’s busiest roads.
Police arrived at the incident on Parramatta Road in Five Dock about 4.30pm on Friday to find a tanker truck and multiple damaged cars blocking the busy road.
A male driver and a female passenger were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with serious injuries, a police spokesperson said.
Two others were taken to RPA with minor injuries.
Parramatta Road was closed in both directions between Harris Road and Frederick Street. Police and Transport for NSW have urged motorists to avoid the area.
A female driver was treated by paramedics at the scene before she was taken to Westmead Hospital with arm and back injuries.
Another driver was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the tanker, a man in his 40s, is helping police with their investigation. He was uninjured in the crash.
AdvertisementThe crash left multiple cars smashed with debris littering the road. One car had its driver side door torn off while another was seen crumpled on the footpath.
“Police have established a crime scene and are investigating the cause of the crash,” a police statement said.
By 8pm the intersection was still full of destroyed cars and both lanes of traffic still closed.
