School Holidays Fish Stocking
More than 60 Family Fishing Lakes have shared in nearly 30,000 catchable size rainbow trout to boost inland fishing opportunities over the school holidays. The releases are part of Fisheries Victoria's state-wide fish stocking program, which is funded by fishing licence fees and the State Government’s $16 million Recreational Fishing Initiative.
Family Fishing Lakes provide a great opportunity for children to try fishing for the first time and most feature convenient access for families with platforms, bank-side tracks and picnic tables.
The lakes include Emerald Lake, Lillydale Lake, Karkarook Lake (Moorabin), Casey Fields Lake (Cranbourne), Kennington Reservoir (Bendigo), Sambell Lake (Beechworth), Guthridge Lake (Sale), Victoria Lake (Shepparton) and Seagull Lake (Geelong).
A daily bag limit of five trout applies in Family Fishing Lakes, of which only two trout can exceed 35 cm. At this time of year, trout cannot be taken from rivers. For more visit www.depi.vic.gov.au/holidaytrout
