New regulations have been introduced to prohibit the take of eastern and western blue groper by all fishing methods.
Blue gropers were reportedly common in east Gippsland in the 1960-70s but numbers were drastically reduced by fishing. This reef fish have recently been spotted by divers in Port Phillip Bay, indicating that numbers are recovering.
Blue gropers are a great attraction for recreational divers and increased numbers would boost eco-tourism and dive industries.
The large blue males are friendly and inquisitive fish, making them particularly vulnerable to spear-fishing.
The no-catch limit provides immediate protection for 12 months from April 2011.
Most recreational and commercial fishers do not target blue groper, with the exception of some spear-fishers who occasionally take the fish.
Blue gropers are also afforded a high level of protection from fishing in New South Wales and South Australia.

官网上看到的:“Taking or attempting to take, including catch and release, is prohibited.”
关键是 attempting to take is prohibited 这怎么可能实现呢?G要偷饵,上面的人能怎么办??难道看见G浮出水面就剪线么?
