Building bridges for Mt Roskill parents
Saturday 16th November
10.30am – 1.30pm
Mt Roskill Primary School Hall and Quad
The Auckland Plan, Puketapapa Local Board Plan, CAMSA Report and Statement of Intent by the Ministry of Education all mention a commitment to the importance of relationships, family and a responsibility to migrant, refugee and newcomer communities. Mt Roskill is an ethnically diverse community, perhaps the most diverse suburb in NZ, which makes the community very interesting but also challenging in regards to communication, cultural understanding and connections. Establishing links with the communities and families is paramount, as it is widely believed that parental involvement is the primary factor affecting a child’s educational success. The Auckland Regional Settlement Strategy also acknowledges that maintaining strong levels of health and wellbeing significantly contributes to quality of life and future social and economic advancements, highlighting the intrinsic link between health, education and settlement.
