新西兰正在全国安装33个超速抓拍摄像头，希望降低事故发生率以及道路交通死亡率。

据悉，这次安装是政府摄像头扩展计划的一部分，该计划预计投资1000万纽币，将在全国高风险路段安装56个固定摄像头。新西兰国家道路巡警经理Steve Greally称，警方此举并非意在增加罚款，“计划扩展后，如果实现零罚款，我们会非常高兴。我们付出了成本，却一分钱也拿不回来。”他说，“我们只对这些摄像头的作用感兴趣，让更多的人减速行驶，安全抵达目的地。”
Greally另外称，警方还将采取其他措施减少事故的发生，比如在事故高发路段保持警车巡逻。事实上，只要驾驶者守法驾车，不超速，就不会吃到罚单。
