好像Pharmacy 都會讀到 Pharmacol + MedChem 的 Papers?


所以其實Pharmacist 工作也能做Pharmacol + Medchem 的 career path??

读pharmay的出来可以做另外两个的工作，读的papers包括了部分另外两个的papers的，主要是出来了可以做药剂师，可以自己开药房。pharmacology 只是药剂学，读出来了就是在药厂和实验室是专业对口的，medchem的话就是在实验室了。medchem读的人比较多，pharmacology的人真的好少，pharmacy每年限定100人左右。

還不如讀Pharmacy? 兩者包辦?

是的呢 我跟我的同学都是这样觉得的，就是pharmacy要读的时间长点读的Papers难点还有进去的要求高点

当然不是这样的，看个人爱好啊，有人不喜欢在药房工作喜欢研发那就没有必要浪费时间读pharmacy了。pharmacy 有很多 pharmacy的专业课的，要是你单纯喜欢研发药品之类的就没有必要读pharmacy了。不过很多人在读第一年的时候都会努力试试进pharmacy的，毕竟要是想向医药品类发展的话读了pharmacy基本上就概括了。你要是单纯看哪个容易找工作容易有更好发展的话肯定是pharmacy的了。新西兰药厂太少了 研发药品的公司工厂来来去去不就那几个吗？单纯读pharmacology的话出来工作不好找的，这就是为什么读的人不多

pharmacy is pretty easy to get in but its quite tough to get good grades. when you graduate you can work as a community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, in pharmaceutical companies or academic research. medchem is more concerned with discovering new chemical entities which can be developed into new medication, pharmacology is more concerned with how this new medicine works inside the body, eg receptors, enzymes and other molecular targets. pharmacy have to study both medsci and chemistry papers until 3rd year, then 4th year we focus on pharmacy papers alone and then one more internship year before registration. So if you are prepared to sacrifice your social life and no sleep for 4 years then go for pharmacy. pharmacology has a better future than medchem, especially if you decide to go to america.

Thank you,, I am more concerned whether Pharmacy will be able to take up roles that Pharmacology or Medicinal Chemistry graduates can do ? E.g. as you said synthesising new medications and how this works in the body.

yea there are industrial pharmacists, (one of our lecturer is one) but its not as common in nz because we don't have any major pharmaceutical companies. we only have one (douglas pharmaceuticals) and they are not really research based.

So does that mean that pharmacology and medicinal chemistry are actually just an extract to pharmacy ? and pharmacy will have much wider career path (consisting of its own career path with addition of pharmacol / medchem roles) compared to only pharmacol / medchem ?

not really, pharmacy is still more clinical and the others are more research based. personally i think pharmacology has got a great future if you decide to go outside NZ.

thank you,, so what you are saying is that pharmacy are not able to have careers that medchem / pharmacol can go through ?? e.g. research based jobs?

they can but not that common. <10% pharmacist work in research (drug development, new dosage form formulations... academic writing and publications etc.. ). >50% in community pharmacy, ~30% in hospitals (ward clinical pharmacist, dispensary and compounding etc) , ~ 10% work in industry (quality control management... ). where as if you do pharmacology or medchem then most graduates will end up doing research.  hope that helps. :)

im not too sure about pharmacology sorry, but i know with the pharmacy degree  is recognised in aus and uk. but you'd need further training if you want to work in US. I think most qualifications are recognised by AUS though

我个人觉得如果想要做药物研究和开发 Medicinal Chemistry 比 Pharmacology 所能提供的专业知识会更好。 Pharmacy 的重点是在临床，如果没有足够的化学背景做不了药物研究。

貌似Pharmacist主要还是开药配药在local pharmacy而不是研发，也可以在医院里面工作给病人用药。
Medicinal chem和pharmacology才是研发，前着更着重chem而后者更重视药对人体的作用
