if you pay them $450 or more (before tax) in salary or wages in a month, you have to pay super for him/her.

Yes, don't have to pay any superannuation if you paid him gross wages less than $450 a month.
However, you would still need his Tax File no. and current address to fill up his PAYG Payment Summary of wages for submitting to ATO. Otherwise, you would not have tax deduction under your business account.
