Just want to use the credit card for one-off payments.
Is it possible to apply for the card and use it for the first year when there is no fees applied, and cancel the card before the first annual fee is due???

I do want to earn the points though.
I have a big amount to pay to the migration office and currently I don't have credit card that earns points. that's why i'm thinking of gettting a card which could earn the points after the big payments, and redeem the points then close the card.
not sure if it's doable.

Yes, you can. But if you do the same things every year, your credit file may be affected.

one question - what would that affect my credit profile? I'm just canceling the credit card not defaulting on it...

Some people play 'circil' games with credit cards. Use a new debt to fund the old one. Financial institutes do not appreciate this kind of behaviour.

Just dont want to waste my reward points on big spending.
would love to have a credti card that:
1> enable me to spend the cash deposit together with credit limit that earns reward points on all spending (without any caps) i.e. spend AUD30k with AUD25k in cash deposit to HSBC credit card and AUD5k with credit limit and earn reward points of 30k equivalent on a monthly basis.
2> no claw-back provisions on waived annual fees upon cancellation of credit card at any time.
anyone could recommend one please?

apply for debit card, Westpac has, all big 4 banks offer debit card, no annual fee, no cancellation fee, can use online and purchase on the phone. use your own fund
