BEIJING, May 12 (TMTPOST) — The cab-hailing industry in China saw an 11.6% drop in order volume in April from the previous month, according to statistics from the Ministry of Transport.
Statistics from the Ministry of Transport show that the cab-hailing industry in the country received 476 million orders in April, registering an 11.6% decline from March.
Earlier in March, the cab-hailing industry in the country received 539 million orders, a 2.2% decline from February.
The cab-hailing industry in China continues to see its order volume drop as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to resurge in the country.
Statistics show that eight out of the top ten cab-hailing platforms in terms of order volume have been suffering from a decline in orders. SAIC Mobility was among all the most affected platforms, with its order volume dropping by 40.5% from the previous month. Ruqi Mobility, Yangguang Chuxing, Meituan Dache, Didi Chuxing and T3 Go saw their order volume drop by 15.5%, 14.6%, 13.4%, 12.9% and 11.5% respectively from the previous month. Only Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur and Huaxiaozhu in the top ten cab-hailing platforms enjoyed growth in order volume, registering an increase of 8.8% and 1.4% respectively.
“I only make around 400 to 500 yuan a day now, which is like half of what I could make in the past,” a driver from Beijing that works on a cab-hailing platform told Yicai, saying that the pandemic has had a great impact on the number of orders drivers could get.
The driver said that he has not been going out since late April. “The decreasing number of orders is one thing. I also worry about the pandemic,” he explained, adding that he has recently started to go out and provide cab-hailing service because the platform requires every driver to work for 15 days.
