Lockdowns could happen in Australia, says Brendan Murphy
Australia's Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy says all options are on the table and that Australia could implement lockdown measures similar to those that are now being put in place in European countries.
As coronavirus cases continue to rise both in Australia and across the globe the Chief Medical Officer went on ABC's Insiders program and faced several questions about precautions, social distancing and what Australia is doing to combat spread.
Asked if Australia was considering lockdown measures similar to those in Europe, to which he replied.
"It is potential that could be the case, but that may be focal," Dr Murphy said.

"One of the things we know about outbreaks of infections is they can effect one part of a country but not the other."
Host David Speers then interjected to ask if it was possible Sydney couldbe locked down, to which Dr Murphy replied:
"Potentially you could," he said.
"The Koreans did that for two provinces very successfully, locked them down, so everything is up for consideration."
Dr Murphy also said people should keep using public transport, but that too could change.
"At the moment we are not suggesting that people should stop using public transport, but as the situation evolves, experts are meeting for a few hours and we are looking at the case numbers.
"Our social distancing measures may well change over time.
"At the moment we are ahead of the curve and moving ahead of most countries on public gatherings."
