新西兰What can the government do to help housing affordability?
在新西兰
Give up on thinking house prices will drop to affordable level. It won't
Don't build more houses, build more apartments. The new houses are all million dollar+, they are not affordable. Sure kiwis don't like apartments but some will buy and they will be able to afford their own homes. When it reaches a tipping point apartments will become popular.
Drop the interest rates. Inflation at the moment is pathetic. Drop the interest rates to near 0 and people will be able to borrow more money and will be able to make repayments. Sure house prices will surge but that doesn't matter. It's unaffordable already anyway, let people borrow to buy nice apartments in good suburbs.
Just my thoughts. Discussion welcome.

kiwi 絕大部份不會買公寓自住的
會買公寓的洋人一般都是出租、自住的基本上不是kiwi(maybe brits as they r so used to living in apartments in uk)
政府有種的話可以不讓沒PR 的買房啊
But trust me, Key won't do that :P

It's their choice but if there's more apartments they can't complain they can't afford a home. I wouldn't mind living in a luxury new apartment around $600k.
