【NEW Flight Plan and Aircraft Noise Problem】

Dear Neighbours,


You may have noticed a massive increase in low flying aircraftand an escalation of related noise they bring. At present it does not seem to be on a weekly basis, but around the beginning of the last school holidays, I counted 17 low flying noisy planes in one day which continued for over a week. The last low flying plane noise I heard from my home disturbed me as late as 11.45 pm. These planes are flying outside of their “smart approaches” curfew time which is 7.00 am to 10.00 pm. At the moment the flight activity appears at times to be back to normal, with not too many low flying planes. As Epsom residents, we are all aware that planes do fly overhead, however at an average height of 4,000,-5,000 – 7,000 feet.


Airways Corporation have introduced a subtle and deliberate smart approaches trial of low flying aircraft over Epsom and surrounding areas on the proposed new flight path and at a frequency when there are fewer people home, in an attempt to stay under the radar. This trial was introduced without the knowledge of the residents to whom it was going to affect. It would definitely appear that this trial is not operating in a full capacity but rather intermittently to prevent a massive uproar. The new flight path is basically a fuel saving shortcut to the airport. The airport and airlines are using a cost saving analysis that does not include you. Any costs saved by the airlines are merely passed on to you via reduced quality of environment and loss of property values. This flight path will appear on your LIM therefore reducing the value of your property.


This trial has the approval of the Auckland Council as they are a large shareholder of Auckland International Airport. We believe the Airways Corporation are trying to prevent any opposition to the flight path and any negative media publicity until the new flight plan is approved in November.


Be assured if this new “smart approaches” is approved, you are going to be living under the main flight path for all incoming and outgoing planes arriving from Australia and Asia. They will no longer be flying at a minimum 4000 ft. but instead flying at 2000 ft. over your homes and this is going to be the height each plane descending into Auckland International Airport is going to fly at.
As Auckland residents we pay some of the highest rates in the country and are facing yet another rate rise, but the Auckland Council expects us, as a community to bear the detrimental environmental and economic effects of this new “Smart Approaches” flight plan.


This is just the beginning as with the growth of the airport there will be an increase in air traffic.

I would like to draw your attention to the attached Jet Activity Map and the solid Red line.This represents the Jet activity and the air traffic turning over the sea out at Beachlands as this is the current flight path. A large if not all of that traffic is planned to start flying over your home at a height of 2000ft in the proposed new “Smart Approaches” flight path, as the planes descend towards the airport.


How you can help?
Time is running out and your help is crucial. We need at least a 100,000 signatures on our petition for this to get the attention that is needed to make an impact.
I urge you to take up your own fight opposing this new “Smart Approaches” flight plan activity, as it will be the community standing as one that make the difference between win or lose.


How can you help?

• Take photo copies of this information I have put in your letter box, and do your own canvassing with this information and encourage other affected residents to do the same
• Begin collecting your own petition signatures using the documentation delivered to you today. Please also copy all this information including my letter to you, as it explains a little better when presenting the petition. Staple all pages together and pick an area and do a drop in letter boxes, schools, business, etc. The area’s that are affected you can Google this from the map supplied, please expand your brochure drops, do hundreds if you can, to area’s such as Mt Roskill, Sandringham, Mt Eden, Epsom,Royal Oak, Onehunga and Remurea, remember we need at least a 100,000 people on the petition for this proposed plan to be stopped.

Public meeting
We are organising a public meeting with representatives of all the political parties, Auckland Council, Airways Corporation and Simon Randall, the Chair of our local board. 如果这段时间测试下来确实能燃油费的话,反对也没有用.毕竟现在全球经济都不好,节省成本是每个企业和政府的头等大事.
