Business SA has condemned the Reserve Bank board decision to lift official interest rates to 4.75 per cent.
Acting CEO Brett Mahoney said the November rate rise was unjustified.
He said there would be a big impact on businesses across the state.
"Business and consumer confidence will take another hit following this latest interest rate rise," he said.
"Business confidence is already low. Our local unemployment rate now sits above the national average and many workers remain under-employed."
Mr Mahoney said small and medium businesses still faced challenges getting access to finance.
"The current inflation rate of 2.8 per cent remains within the Reserve Bank's tolerance range, which makes today's decision perplexing and unwarranted," he said.
